Going round in Circles...!

Going round in circles is what I can identify with in regards to this project! This is the current challenge from a Vintage Journey!  This was made on a paper bag and I painted over it 3 times until I finally said enough!  So yes, I was definitely going around in circles with this project!
Still time to enter here-http://www.vintagejourney.com/2017/01/going-round-in-circles.html

There are buttons, gears and die cut clocks underneath white gesso and then I used Silks Acrylic Glazes for the colors and Dylusions Black Paint for the circles made with a paper towel tube!  Sometimes goof ups turn out the best!  Onward!

Time to do what you LOVE!

I'm so excited to be sharing my first DT tutorial with you!  I believe that challenges really help with your creativity, technique and inspiration!  As a newer crafter, I have met so many great people that craft around the world and I am so humbled to be part of the Design Team here at Mixed Media Mojo!  Thank you to all who have befriended me in this great group!

This challenge project for January was about New and the twist was clocks!  I first started crafting on tags and that is my go to for projects. However, I do use art journals and other items to create! Make sure to enter here at Mixed Media Mojo Challenges-https://mixedmediamojo.blogspot.com/p/info-on-how-to-play-along.html

Here is a picture of the finished project-

"Time Flies, When you do what you love"

This project used a lot of different techniques and textures!  So lets
get started!
First I did the paint resist technique from Tim Holtz! Using a brayer to roll on Antique Linen Distress Paint onto a #12 tag. Then I used 4 colors of Distress Ink- Broken China, Tumbled Glass,Rusty Hing and Tea Dye.

Because the paint is permanent after it dries,it will not smear when you apply water or Distress ink. Look how the lettering comes through for a great background.  The next step was to take a Tim Holtz Embossing Folder Clocks and run it through my Vagabond 2 machine. I love the extra texture that you get from embossing folders.  Then I used Distress Ink Vintage Photo to highlight!
I wanted to use some Distress Crackle Rock Candy Clear Paint to provide some additional texture to the tag.
This needs to air dry and I just put it in front of a fan. While I was waiting on the paint to dry, I went ahead and stamped my fairy girl with Distress Black Soot Archival Ink. Then I embossed with black embossing powder and used the same colors on the tag to lightly brush with color.
I used my miniature Tim Holtz Tonic Scissors to fussy cut my fairy girl out! I love these scissors! Then I die cut and embossed some wings from foam core board to give more texture.

I did use the rust paints from Prima and Tim Hotlz Distress paints on the big Roman clock. I  die cut the clock in gold foil paper and it seems to take the colors better.

I originally was going to use  the rust technique on the wings but felt that they did not stand out as well.

I painted over them and used InkaGold gold wax and applied with some water and a brush.  I did this for the the little metal wings and the pocket watch which are from Tim Holtz Ideaology line.

Then for the finishing touches, I used the black chit chat sayings and highlighted with a white marker. Some Distress Crayons to go in  and around the tag and that was it!

I hope you enjoyed this project! It was a lot of fun!

Grunge Challenge

In keeping with my New Year's resolution to enter more challenges, here is a grunge tag for the Viva Las Vegas Stamp company! Their January inspiration was about black, tan, dandelions and grunge!  I do love this goth moth with the skull in the middle and of course the saying, "Find your tribe, love them hard"!  I think I have found my tribe with all my crafty friends!

Challenges for 2017

So I challenged myself to enter challenges for tags, mixed media and art journals for 2017. As a new crafter in ink, mixed media and paper arts, I feel that these challeges improve your technique and provide a lot inspiration! The techniques that I have learned from taking classes with Tim Holtz live and online, watching youtube videos and participating in these challenges all contribute to me improving as well as having a lot of fun along the way!

This is my first submission to the January Challenge at Frilly and Funkie!

More Clocks.....

Ok, last one!! I got this clock die by Tim Holtz and I am just having too much fun!! Going to send it out to a friend! Ok, moving on!

Love for Halloween

I often get strange looks and questions when I talk about Halloween at the beginning of the year! "Halloween is 10 months away!" is what I hear from non haunter folks- we call them "Naunters". However, as a home haunter that has put out big yard displays with mostly homemade props, you start planning very early!

This past year 2016, we couldn't participate in Halloween due to work conflicts. Needless to say my neighborhood was very disappointed!

So knowing that I wouldn't be building any props for Halloween, I had to find something to channel my creative energies into!  It started with a video from Tim Holtz showing Halloween Mixed Media panel  and the rest they say is history!

I had decided to send out Halloween Tags and then Halloween themed Christmas cards this year to friends!  Needless to say I ran out of time as I was starting from scratch!  However, here are a few works that I sent out.  I have a lot more of my work on my Instagram Account- https://www.instagram.com/juliriedel/?hl=en

This was made with Tim Holtz Distress Spray Ink in White Picket Fence and Black Soot and stamped twice with White Picket Fence and then Archival Black.  I didn't have Distress Hickory Smoke spray at the time, so I just kind of made my own.  I liked the ethereal effect that turned out.

These Monster Mash Men were made from Tim Holtz Sizzix Dies.  I embossed the Tim Holtz Kraft Core Metallic cards and also embossed the Metallic Kraft Core paper for the monsters.  I used Distress Crayons to color and cut out the felt Santa hats from the Tim Holtz Santa Die.  I love googly eyes and thought they looked appropriate on the zombie!  These were great cards to give out to my Halloween friends!

Happy New Year and New Post!

Happy New Year! New Year's day 2017 and my first new post on my new blog! I have jumped into Mixed Media, tag making, card making, art journaling and such this past year! My love for Halloween is still strong and I'm still a home haunter but last year we couldn't participate because of work conflicts! Booooo!

So on to new beginnings for 2017! I am participating in Wanderlust 2017 which is a year long class in Mixed Media, Art Journaling and whatever else! Can't wait for that to start on January 6th!

I'm also participating as a Design Team Member for Mixed Media Mojo challenges! Check out the blog and participate in the monthly challenge. You can find the challenges here https://mixedmediamojo.blogspot.com/p/info-on-how-to-play-along.html

Here is my take on January's theme for Happy New Year with a twist with clocks! Lots of different textures used, Distress Inks, Distress Paint and Crayons as well! Stay tuned! More fun stuff to come!
